Description
The Vine Public House is a public house built around 1875, constructed of red brick with plain clay tile roofs and end stacks. The layout includes a corridor with a smoke room and games room on the left, and vaults (public bar) on the right, with private accommodation at the rear.
The exterior features two storeys on the left and a one-storey lean-to on the right, with sash windows. Console brackets are located beside the door and window heads of the left-hand part, and there is a modillion cornice below the eaves of this section. One ground floor window has etched glass displaying the name 'Vaults'.
Inside, there is an internal porch leading to the corridor. The vaults area includes a bar counter with matchboard panelling and consoles, along with fixed seating around the walls. The fireplace was renewed in the mid to late 20th century. The smoke room has fixed seating and a large glazed hatch leading to the games room, which also features fixed seating. A timber partition, glazed at the top, separates the smoke room and games room from the corridor, which has two hatches leading to the servery.
This public house is a now rare example of a small, back street establishment serving a working community, retaining its original plan and furnishings.
