Description
The former Chapel of the Methodist New Connection, built in 1821, is now used as shops. The building features painted brick and a plain tiled roof. Its facade facing Tower Square has a pediment and includes early 20th-century shop fronts on the ground floor, which have a continuous fascia supported by console brackets. The shop windows have leaded upper lights and some decorative glazing. Above the shop fronts, there is a central Palladian window set in a stuccoed architrave, flanked by two windows with shouldered architraves. A plaque is located in the pediment. The elevation facing Piccadilly Street has two storeys, rising to three due to the sloping ground to the west. Although all windows have been altered, the original flat-arched heads remain, and there is one early 19th-century doorcase with a moulded architrave.
