Description
The Trent and Mersey Canal Lodge at Harecastle Tunnel is a canal lodge built between 1824 and 1827. It is constructed of white-washed brick and features a slate roof with overhanging eaves. The building has two storeys and three bays, with two brick gable stacks. The south front includes a central doorway framed by a crude pilaster and a pediment. On either side of the doorway are single three-light casement windows with segmentally-arched brick heads. Above, there are two smaller windows of a similar design. This lodge was built to serve the Harecastle Tunnel for the Trent and Mersey Canal.
