Description
North Sutton House, including the kitchen range to the rear, is a house dating from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with a core from the 17th century. It is constructed of sandstone rubble and features a plain tile roof. The building has a stepped rubble external stack with a brick chimney on the right side, a rubble buttress stack with a brick chimney at the rear, and a brick end stack for the kitchen range. The house has an H-shaped plan and is two storeys tall, with an attic in the right cross-wing.
The central range has two half-dormers with three-light casements above a central battened plank door, which is flanked by a three-light casement and a single-light casement on the left. The advanced gable on the left features a two-light casement above a three-light casement, both under brick segmental arches. The advanced gable on the right has a 20th-century light in a 20th-century timber-framed gable head, above a two-light casement, with additional two and three-light casements on the ground floor.
At the rear, there is timber framing with brick and plaster infill in the rear gables, and a late 19th-century connecting range leads to a 17th-century outbuilding, which is now used as a kitchen. Inside, the house features stop-chamfered ceiling beams, exposed timber framing, and two stone fireplaces with chamfered beams.
