Description

The wall adjoining the remains of Alberbury Castle to the south-east is likely from the mid-19th century. It is constructed from coursed Alberbury breccia with red sandstone dressings. The wall runs approximately north-south, curving towards the south-east, and measures about 50 metres long and 2.5 metres high. The coping stones vary in height. There is probably a 19th-century doorway on the south side featuring a pointed chamfered arch and a nail-studded boarded door. At the north end, there is a pair of 20th-century boarded gates that provide access to a yard. This wall connects the remains of Alberbury Castle at its northern end and the English Lodge at its southern end, creating an important visual link between the English Lodge, the war memorial, the castle remains, and the church. It is included for its group value.
