SJ 3514 ALBERBURY WITH ALBERBURY CARDESTON C.P. 12/18 Wall adjoining the - remains of Alberbury Castle to south-east

GV II

Wall. Probably mid-C19. Coursed Alberbury breccia with red sandstone dressings. Aligned approximately north-south, curving round to south-east; approximately 50 metres long and 2.5 metres high. Coping-stones of alternate heights. Probably C19 doorway to south with pointed chamfered arch and nail-studded boarded door. Pair of C20 boarded gates giving access to yard at north end. The wall adjoins the remains of Alberbury Castle (qv) at its north end and the English Lodge (qv) at its southern end. It forms a significant visual link between the English Lodge (qv), war memorial (qv), the remains of the Castle (qv), and the church (qv). Included for group value.
