Description

The White Harte Inn is a 17th-century inn with 18th and 19th-century additions, located on the east side of High Street in Shifnal. The building is timber framed, rendered on the right side and gable ends, and features an old tile roof. It has a T-plan layout with three framed bays and a one-bay wing at the rear, rising to one and a half storeys. The exterior showcases close studding with angle braces, a jettied first floor supported by four carved scrolled brackets, and a moulded bressumer adorned with a carved trail and rosettes. There are two large gabled eaves dormers with 20th-century two-light casements, jettied tie beams, and queen post trusses. The building has an off-centre ridge stack to the right and a large ridge stack on the rear wing.

On the ground floor, there are two 20th-century square bay windows with diamond leaded casements and two central 20th-century bearded doors with a plain surround. To the right, there is a two-storey addition featuring a gabled eaves dormer with two-light casements and a vehicular entrance below with two large bearded doors and a wooden lintel. Inside, the inn contains two corner fireplaces with moulded lintels and moulded beams in two ground floor rooms. The left end wall is square framed, and there is a queen post truss with v-struts.
