Description
Nos 1 and 2 Mardol is a row of three shops, currently functioning as one unit. The building dates partly from the 18th century but has been extensively rebuilt. It features a combination of brick and roughcast render with plain tiled roofs.
Nos 1 and 2 are likely the oldest sections, while No. 3 probably dates from around 1800. The front of No. 3 has a low-pitched roof that is not visible behind the parapet. Nos 1 and 2 are two storeys high and have a five-window layout. They include inserted shop fronts, three two-pane sash windows with renewed flat-arched heads for No. 1, and two four-pane sash windows for No. 2. No. 2 also has angle quoins on the left side. Both units have a hipped roof.
The return elevation facing Claremont Street features two four-pane sash windows and two blocked window spaces, all with flat-arched gauged brick heads. There is one hipped gabled dormer on the left and dentilled eaves along the Claremont Street elevation, along with gable and axial stacks.
No. 3 has three storeys, an inserted shop front, and a single long inserted window on the first floor, with two four-pane sash windows on the second storey.
