Description

This cottage, located approximately 20 meters north of Harnage House, dates from the late 17th century and has undergone alterations and additions in the late 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of sandstone rubble, with some areas rebuilt in painted brick, and features a timber-framed gable end to the southwest with painted brick nogging. The roof is covered in plain tiles, and the building is one storey with an attic.

On the northwest side, there are two gabled eaves dormers that contain 2-light wooden casements, along with a small 20th-century dormer on the southeast side. The northeast end has an integral brick stack, and a central weathervane is present. The southeast front features three late 19th-century segmental-headed 2-light wooden casements. There is a door located between the first and second windows from the right, which has four flush panels and is accompanied by a 20th-century sandstone rubble and glazed lean-to porch with a half-glazed door on the left side.

The northwest front includes a small segmental-headed 19th-century casement on the right, with a blocked small 17th-century two-light window above it. To the left, there is a rendered 20th-century lean-to addition. Inside, the exposed collar and tie-beam truss in the gable end to the southwest reveals the ends of two pairs of purlins, and while the interior has not been inspected, it is likely to be of interest.
