Description

This milestone, located approximately 260 metres to the north-west of English Lodge, dates from the late 18th century. It is made of painted red sandstone and features a square base with broaches leading up to a triangular-section shaft. The base is inscribed with "Alberbury," while the right-hand side reads "SALOP/9/MILES" and the left-hand side states "LLAN/FYLLIN/16/MILES." The road to Llanfyllin was turnpiked by 1780, which included a diversion to the south of the village, and there was a tollgate at Alberbury by 1783.
