Description

PITCHFORD C.P. - SJ 5204-5304 SJ 52876 04620 12/123 Milestone approx. - 70 metres to east - of North Lodge II Milestone. Late C18. Grey sandstone. Segmental top. Inscribed: "Salop/6/Miles". Slightly damaged at time of survey (April 1985). Sited on the south side of the Shrewsbury-Pitchford road. The Shrewsbury-Acton Burnell road was turnpiked in 1797, although it was diverted around Pitchford Park c.1833. Part of a complete series, including milestones at Cantlopcross, Berrington C.P. (q.v.) and Pitchford C.P. (q.v.). V.C.H., Vol. VIII, Pp.16 and 118.
