SO5270 Outbuilding approximately 2 metres 482-1/15/39 south-east of Brook House

GV II

Outbuilding, probably laundry and kitchen, now garage. C17. Single-bay timber-frame with painted render and brick infill, remainder of brick and sandstone rubble, tiled roof. EXTERIOR: single storey. Gable facing street with raking-strut truss over C20 boarded garage doors. Sides to south and north: square framing 2 panels high to both sides with sill and wall plates, studs and mid rails. Stone rubble walls of rear stack on south side now capped below roof eaves. Small window light inserted in former door position. Brick rear store to north with plain boarded door. Boarded door to side. INTERIOR: single trenched-purlin roof with open internal truss of principal rafters and tie beam, the roof restored in C19. Example of detached timber-framed service accommodation serving a timber-framed main house (Brook House (qv)). Forms a group with Brook House (qv) and included for group value.
