Description

The memorial to the Bale family is located 10 metres north of the nave of the Church of St Mary in Ashford Carbonell. It dates from the mid-19th century and features a cast-iron enclosure with a rectangular plan. The enclosure is decorated with cast sections showcasing mid-19th century foliage and heraldic patterns set in panels between ornamental standards. Inside the enclosure are three plain inscribed grave slabs. The southern slab commemorates Major Edward Henry Bale, who died in 1858, and George Bale, who died in 1861. The central slab is dedicated to William Pritchett Bale, who died in 1852. The northern slab honors Elizabeth Bale, who died in 1869, William Anthony Bale, who died in 1872, and Elizabeth Mary Byrne, who died in 1878.
