Description
This is a chest tomb and surrounding railings, dating from the mid-19th century, located 2 meters north of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Ashford Carbonell. The memorial commemorates Caroline Walker, daughter of Charles Walker of Ashford Court, who died in 1847. The tomb is made of sandstone ashlar and features a pyramid lid with a moulded lip. It has plain inscribed panels that show remnants of white paint and black letters, along with fluted corner sections and a plain plinth. The railings are constructed with square-section main corner and mid standards topped with spear-head finials that have double barbs. The mid standards include ogee braces, and the square-section balusters have a single barb. The railings also feature a plain top and bottom rail, and the overall structure is supported by a plain ashlar plinth.
