Description
The Morgan Bale Tomb, located about 3 yards east of the Church of St Mary, is an 18th-century bale-tomb made of ashlar stone, featuring intricate high relief carvings. This unusual 'double-decker' design includes a large fluted bale capping and foliage carvings. The tomb is supported by four swagged corner piers and has fielded panels with a gadrooned band above the first level. It commemorates Henry Morgan, who died in 1727, his daughter-in-law Rose Morgan, who passed away in 1734, and his son Robert, who died in 1759. It is considered the finest tomb in the churchyard.
