Description

The drinking fountain, dated 1878, is located on the green opposite the Shaven Crown in Shipton-under-Wychwood. It is made of stone and features slate corner piers with a lion's mask spout. The fountain includes a stone trough and a square plinth with corner shafts and decorative florets in the cornice. It has cross gables and a spirelet on top. The gablets are adorned with brass plaques, primarily commemorating the loss of 28 emigrants from Shipton to New Zealand in a fire aboard the ship Cospatrick.
