Description
Bank House and Bank Croft are a house dating to circa 1700, with alterations and vestiges of an earlier building visible in the east gable line. The house is constructed of coursed rubble with freestone quoins and timber lintels, topped by a Cotswold stone roof. There is an ashlar gable end chimney to the left and a gabled chimney to the rear. The building follows a through-passage plan with a stair turret to the rear. Bank Croft forms an L-shaped wing. The main, south front has four windows on the first floor, featuring casements of varying sizes with glazing bars, including some wooden cross mullion windows. A doorway with a chamfered wooden surround and a half-glazed door is situated in the second bay from the left. Other original features include an early 18th century rear door and a three-light mullion window.
Inside, the east ground floor room retains a possible 16th or early 17th century fireplace with a heavy lintel. Above this, on the first floor, is a Tudor arch fireplace. The east ground floor room also has chamfered beams and joists, while the west ground floor room contains a pair of cupboards with splat-balluster vents. The roof is of a local type, featuring tie beams, collar beams, and two rows of butt purlins. Bank Croft, which appears on Ordnance Survey maps as Bank, is a lower two-storey wing with 2:2 windows and chamfered wooden lintels. It includes a mid-19th century angled bay and a door under a pentice, and has a concrete tile roof, along with a plain ledged door to the right. Bank Lodge, a gabled mid-19th century addition to the right, isn't included in the listing.
