Description

St Mary's Primary School is a church school built in 1854 by G.E. Street, the Diocesan architect. Constructed of coursed rubble with a concrete tile roof, the school is designed in a solid Gothic style, featuring acutely pointed gables. The original rectangular building has later extensions to both the left and right. The central part of the building is defined by a stepped wall stack, flanked by arcades containing six and three lancet windows, each with a cusped arch head. An arched doorway is on the left, leading into a lean-to extension that continues as a lower, single-story section with a catslide roof. This section has pointed trefoil head windows in its gable end. A set-back, low extension to the right includes a Tudor arch doorway and connects to a T-plan school room added in 1887, which has a very large window in its gable.
