Description
Cedar Lodge, originally a vicarage, was built in 1818 by architect Richard Pace and has been altered since. The building is rendered with ashlar end piers and dressings, featuring a hipped slate roof with wide eaves and a set-back central chimney stack. It is two storeys high with three bays, although the front has been altered. The centre of the facade has a slight break with raised quoins and windows in raised architraves; the ground floor windows are set within arched panels, with the right-hand panel blocked. The windows are glazing bar sashes. There is a central projecting ashlar porch with panelled piers, a cornice, and a blocking course, leading to bivalve doors. To the left, there is a 20th-century door with a small window above, and a lower service wing (Cedar Lodge) with a 2:2 bay configuration. The rear of the main part remains unaltered, featuring three bays and arched panels for the ground floor windows. Inside, the building retains the staircase from 1818 and some plasterwork details, such as the cornice in the south-west room.
Adjacent to the east end of Cedar Lodge is the former stable court wall, which is at right angles to the building. This wall features a central archway with a ramped parapet and stands about 10 feet high and 15 yards long.
