Description
Nos. 5 and 6 Church Road is a farmhouse that has been divided into two cottages. It dates from the mid-17th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. The building is timber framed with painted brick infill and features a slate roof. It is one storey high with an attic and appears to consist of three framed bays. The framing includes rectangular panels, two extending from the cill to the wall-plate with short straight tension braces, and v-struts from the collars to both gable ends.
On the ground floor, there are three casements; the left one is from the 20th century, while the right one is from the late 19th century. There is a prominent gabled half-dormer on the left that has been remodelled in the 20th century, with a contemporary casement inserted, and a 19th-century gabled eaves dormer on the right. The building has an integral red brick end stack on the left and a similar internal end stack on the right, positioned in front of the ridge. There are mid-20th century flat-roofed brick additions attached to the left and right corners, which are not of special architectural interest.
