Description

Cliff Villas are a pair of houses built in the mid-19th century. They feature a mix of rubble, roughcast, and sham timber-framing, topped with a plain tile roof that has twin gables at the front. The houses have brick end stacks with multiple shafts. The design follows a two-unit plan in a cottage orne style, with two storeys, an attic, and a cellar.

The front facade has a two-window range, showcasing canted oriel windows with metal glazing bars, moulded cornices, and underhangs, above mullion windows set in chamfered reveals with stone drip-courses. The central entrance bay is recessed and has matching plank doors. Above the entrance is a balcony supported by chamfered oak posts and adorned with spat balusters. Access to the balcony is through narrow plank doors with pointed heads, although these have been replaced by 20th-century glazing on the right side.

The ornamental barge-boards, plaster work, and timber-framing add to the architectural interest. The rear of the houses is roughcast and features various leaded lights, sash windows, and casements, with some 20th-century alterations on the left. The returned sides are made of rubble and have banded brick stack bases, with a stone tablet on the right side.
