Description

The Charlton Arms Hotel is a house that has been converted into an inn. It features a 19th-century front but has an 18th-century core. The building is roughcast with a turnerised slate roof that has a gable at the rear, where the pitch is covered with old plain tiles. There are brick stacks at both ends and a stack at the rear. The hotel has an L-shaped plan and is two stories tall with an attic, displaying a three-window range. The windows include 6/6 sashes, and to the right, there is a tripartite arrangement of 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 sashes, with an 8/8 sash above.

The entrance is located to the center left, featuring a 20th-century glazed door set back in a porch beneath a chamfered stucco arch with a stone band above. To the left of the entrance is a 19th-century 8/8 sash window, and to the right is a canted bay window with 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 sashes. There is a small brick wing to the left that contains 2/2 sashes and a 2-light casement, all under segmental arches.

The rear elevation is made of rubble and roughcast, with brick modillion eaves. It has a plank shutter for the attic and features a mullion and transom light in the rear wing, as well as a 6/6 sash on the south gable. The front facing the River Teme includes a semi-circular oriel with three bowed 6/6 sashes beneath a lead roof. To the right of the oriel, there is a 2/2, 6/6, and 2/2 sash, with two similar sashes above. The basement has fixed lights and a casement, along with an outshut to the right.
