Description
14 and 16 Cross Hayes are a pair of houses built in the early 19th century. They are constructed from rendered limestone rubble, with brick gable stacks and a stone slate roof. The houses have a double-depth plan and are two storeys tall with an attic, featuring a three-window range. They are symmetrical, with doors located on either side of the party wall, each having bracketed canopies and six-panel doors; the upper panels are glazed. The windows are horned late 19th-century sashes with margin panes, with one sash on the ground floor of each house, and the sash for No. 14 has a segmental-arched head. There are two small dormers with similar heads and casements. At the rear, the houses have oak lintels above sashes in exposed boxes and panelled doors. The interior has not been inspected, but it is reported to have stairs with uncut string and turned balusters and newels.
