Description

No.12, Cross Hayes Road is a house with origins in the late 17th century, remodelled in the late 18th century and with a 20th-century addition to the rear. It is constructed of limestone rubble, partially refaced with brick, with limestone dressings, a brick party wall stack, and a stone slate roof. The house has a single-depth plan and two storeys, including a cellar, with a single-window front. Rusticated quoins are visible and a plain doorway is located on the left-hand side, featuring a half-glazed door and a timber lintel. A mullion and transom window was inserted into the ground floor in the mid-20th century, while the first floor retains a 17th-century cross window with leaded lights. The house was originally a three-window range with a central doorway, which has now been blocked. A stone slate hangs from the left-hand gable. The interior has not been inspected, but is said to contain stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, and a cellar fireplace that predates the house itself. The fireplace has a low, arched head and chamfered reveals.
