Description

This is a disused cottage located approximately 30 metres west of Plas Warren Hall. It dates from the late 17th century and has some minor later additions and alterations. The cottage is timber framed with red brick infill and features a slate roof. It consists of two cells with a former byre attached to the left side. The building is one storey with an attic. The framing includes square panels, three from the cill to the wall-plate, with a short straight brace; collar and tie beam end trusses are present, along with raking struts. There are 19th-century casement windows on either side of a boarded door to the right, and two 19th-century gabled eaves dormers. A wide inserted entrance is located at the far left. The interior includes an end stack to the right and a red brick stack in the centre of the rear roof slope. There is a 19th-century red brick lean-to attached to the left gable end. Inside, the house-part features chamfered ceiling beams in the ground-floor rooms. A semi-winder staircase in the front right corner has heavy moulded turned balusters, some of which have been replaced by slender 18th-century turned balusters. The former byre has raking struts from the tie beam to the principal rafters in the wall shared with the house-part, along with evidence of a former loft.
