Description

ELLESMERE RURAL C.P. PLAS WARREN SJ 33 NW 3/150 Disused cottage approx. - 30m west of Plas Warren Hall GV II Cottage, now disused. Late C17 with minor later additions and alterations. Timber framed with red brick infill; slate roof. 2-cell cottage with former byre attached to left. One storey and attic. Framing: square panels, 3 from cill to wall-plate with short straight brace; collar and tie beam end trusses, left with raking struts. C19 casements to either side of boarded door to right and two C19 gabled eaves dormers. Wide inserted entrance to far left. Internal end stack to right and red brick stack in bottom of roof slope to centre on rear. C19 red brick lean-to attached to left gable end. Interior. House-part has chamfered ceiling beams to ground-floor rooms. Semi-winder staircase to front right corner has heavy moulded turned balusters, some replaced by slender C18 turned balusters. Former byre has raking struts from tie beam to principal rafters in wall shared with house-part and evidence for former loft.
