Description
Keeper's Cottage is a disused cottage dating from the late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with red brick infill and a corrugated iron roof. The building has a two-cell plan and is one storey high with an attic. The framing consists of square panels, three from the cill to the wall-plate, while the ground floor of the right gable end has been rebuilt in early 20th century yellow brick. There is a central doorway, although the door was missing at the time of the last survey in February 1986. On either side of the doorway are 19th-century casements set in panels of framing, and there is a 19th-century gabled eaves dormer at the rear. Inside, there is a red brick end stack to the left, and the left ground-floor room features a chamfered spine beam and plain joists, along with an inglenook fireplace that has a segmental wooden lintel. An oak winder staircase is located behind the stack, with brick stepping visible upstairs. The roof is a single-purlin design in two bays, supported by three exposed collar and tie beam trusses.
