Description
Vale Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the mid-17th century, with 18th-century additions and mid to late 19th-century alterations and additions. The building is timber framed with painted brick nogging on a brick plinth, and it has been partly rebuilt and extended in brick, which is painted to resemble timber framing. The roofs are covered with slate. The framing consists of square panels, three of which extend from the sole plate to the 17th-century wall plate, and features long straight tension braces. The eaves were raised in the 18th century by adding two small panels. The farmhouse is designed in an L-plan, with two framed bays and a projecting gabled cross wing to the right of the two framed bays. It has two storeys, with an integral brick end stack on the left and a brick ridge stack on the cross wing. The rear gable end of the cross wing is parapeted. The front has a two-to-one window arrangement, featuring 19th-century two-light wooden casements and four-pane sashes. There is a painted brick porch at the angle of the cross wing, which has a late 20th-century panelled door. The gable end of the cross wing displays an exposed collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts. At the rear of the cross wing, there is a 19th-century painted brick addition with an integral brick corner stack. The interior has not been inspected.
