Description
Yew Tree Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one dwelling. It likely dates from the early 18th century, with later additions and alterations. The structure features a light timber frame with red brick infill and some later rebuilding, topped with a corrugated iron roof over thatch. The building is one storey with an attic.
The framing includes light horizontal rectangular panels on the back wall, with four panels extending from the cill to the wall-plate, and an irregular tie beam with V-struts connecting to the right gable end. The front and left gable ends are constructed with 18th century and later brick. The windows are primarily early to mid-19th century casements, featuring a leaded fixed-light window on the left and a multi-paned cast-iron casement to the left of centre. There is a raking eaves dormer with a leaded casement immediately to the right. The doors are boarded, located in the centre and to the right, with a ridge stack positioned immediately to the right of the former.
Inside, the ground floor comprises two rooms. The left room features a chamfered spine beam and an inglenook fireplace that includes a 19th century cast-iron cooking range. The right room also has a chamfered spine beam and a 19th century grate in the fireplace. An early 20th century addition at right angles to the rear on the left side is not considered to have special architectural interest.
