Description
This barn, located approximately 10 meters west of The Laurels, dates from the early 18th century and has undergone later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with red brick infill and a plinth, topped by a corrugated iron roof. The barn has two levels, with vertical posts and light horizontal members creating wide rectangular panels, four of which extend from the cill to the wall-plate. The left gable end has a cambered tie beam with raking struts supporting the principal rafters, while the right gable end is constructed of red brick. The rear of the barn includes long straight tension braces. There are five ventilated doors, with eaves hatches located directly above the inner three doors. Inside, the barn has a single-purlin roof divided into four unequal bays, featuring a king-post truss at the center and raking struts connecting the tie beams to the principal rafters of the other trusses. The interior also includes 19th-century cowstalls with walkways running across the width of the building. The barn is included for its group value.
