Description

The Villa is a house that underwent remodelling in the mid- to late 18th century, originally built earlier. It features red brick construction with a timber-framed left gable end and a gable at the rear, topped with a plain tile roof. The building consists of a hall and a cross-wing, with the cross-wing located at the rear of the current structure, which has an 18th-century front.

The house is two storeys tall with a gable-lit attic and has a dentilled eaves cornice. The framing reveals square panels on the left gable end, although the cross-wing is now covered with weatherboarding. There are segmental-headed three-light casement windows on both sides of the central entrance; the windows to the left are from the late 19th century, while those to the right are 20th-century metal. The entrance features a 20th-century half-glazed door beneath a late 19th-century gabled brown brick porch.

A prominent red brick external end stack is located on the left, featuring twin rebated shafts of star section, likely from the 17th century, alongside a plain 19th-century shaft. There is also an 18th-century external end stack on the right. The rear of the building has late 19th-century and 20th-century additions. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have chamfered ceiling beams with heavy joists in the ground-floor rooms. The Villa is included as Home Farm Cottage (grade III) on a provisional list.
