Description

This barn, located approximately 50 metres to the north-east of Plowden Hall, dates from the late 17th century and has 18th century and mid to late 19th century additions. It features a weatherboarded timber frame set on a coursed limestone rubble plinth, with coursed limestone rubble additions at both ends and red brick dressings. The roof is made of slate and corrugated iron. The barn has square panel framing and consists of 11 framed bays, with a strey in the fourth bay from the west. It is a single storey building with lofts on the east and west sides.

On the south front, there are two loft doors on the left and one loft door on the right. The ground floor, from left to right, includes a 2-light casement window, a two-leaf boarded door, a boarded window, another boarded door, a cart entrance, and a segmental-headed boarded door at the far right. The north front features, from left to right, two 20th century casement windows, a boarded door, another 20th century casement window, a boarded door, two pitching holes, and a cart entrance, with a loft door in the gable end to the east.

Inside, the barn has a double purlin roof supported by inclined strut and queen strut trusses. There is a square panelled framed partition wall between the seventh and eighth bays from the west, which likely contains 17th century red brick nogging.
