Description

This is a group of six chest tombs located approximately 15 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Lucia. They date from the late 18th century or early 19th century and are made of grey sandstone ashlar.

The tomb to the east is the Lloyd tomb, featuring raised panels, fluted corner piers, and a chamfered top with reeded edges. The Humphries tomb to the north has paired oval side panels adorned with carved rosettes, flanking panelled pilaster strips, oval end panels with carved rosettes, and a moulded cornice on its flat top. The central tomb showcases two-bay open side panels with a central reeded pier, carved end piers, recessed oval end panels with a central carved rosette, carved husks in the spandrels, and a moulded cornice on its chamfered top.

To the south is the Ellsmere tomb, which features two-bay oval side panels with carved spandrels, fluted corner piers, recessed oval end panels with carved rosettes, and a chamfered top with panelled gables. The Ellsmere tomb to the south-west has paired moulded square side panels with central and flanking fluted pilaster strips, raised oval end panels, and a moulded cornice on its chamfered top with panelled gables. Finally, the chest tomb at the far south-west includes a moulded plinth, paired raised and fielded side panels, flanking fluted pilaster strips, raised and fielded square end panels, and a moulded cornice on its flat top.
