Description
This is a group of five chest tombs located approximately 20 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Eata. They date from the late 18th century or early 19th century and are made of sandstone ashlar. The two tombs to the north feature moulded plinths, shaped corner balusters, raised and fielded panels, and moulded cornices. The south-west tomb has a plinth, panelled pilasters, and chamfered top, while the southern tomb includes a moulded plinth, fluted corner pilasters with paterae in the capitals, slightly recessed oval panels at the ends, and a moulded cornice on its flat top. The south-east tomb has a plinth, panelled square end-pilasters flanking plain sides, and a top with panelled gables inscribed with "MOMENTO MORI" on the west side and "RESURGEM" on the east side. These tombs are associated with the Davies, Watson, Yeoman, Sayer, Price, and Maddock families.
