Description

The Wood memorial is a pedestal tomb located approximately 7.5 metres south of the nave of the Church of St Mary and St Andrew in Condover. It dates from around 1770 and is made of sandstone. The tomb has a hexagonal shape with a moulded plinth and capping. At the top, there are six carvings of sheep's skulls that are linked by draped leaf garlands with flowing ribbons. There are painted inscription panels on five sides, commemorating various members of the Wood family, with the earliest being Samuel Wood, who died in 1769, although the lettering is likely from a later date.
