Description
The wood monument is a pedestal tomb located in the churchyard, about 12 meters southeast of the southeast corner of the south aisle of the Church of St. Mary. It commemorates John Wood, who died in 1827. The monument is made of stone and features a flat pyramid top with a step leading to the moulded edge of the lid. It has a reeded frieze with square corner blocks that include paterae, and the corners have the same moulding with a plain block at the base. The sides are plain with a sunk margin. The monument also has a moulded plinth and a square base that formerly supported railings, with an additional step outside. Various earlier and later dates are noted on the monument, with the latest being 1883.
