Description

CLUNBURY C.P. KEMPTON SO 38 SE 4/83 The Smithy - II -

Smithy. Probably mid-to late C19 with minor later alterations. Uncoursed limestone rubble, replaced by concrete blocks to left gable end; slate roof with integral red brick end stack to right at junction with lower range. One storey. C19 cast-iron casement with wooden shutters to right of centre; entrance through double doors to left gable end. Interior: retains complete set of equipment. 2 sets of bellows, anvil and 2 forges. Right room has a stone floor and central king-post truss. Left room (formerly for shoeing horses) has boarded floor. Still in use at time of resurvey (August 1986).
