Description
The Old Smithy is a smithy dating from the late 17th century, with later alterations and restorations. It features small timber framing with reddish brick infill arranged in stretcher bond, set on a limestone plinth, and has weatherboarding on the left end. The building has a plain-tile roof.
The exterior is single-storey with a two-unit plan. The left unit has a horse-shoe shaped timber entrance, while the right unit contains a plank door that provides access to the smithy. There are two fixed-light windows with plank shutters, and a forge ash tray is located on the right gable, with additional timbering on the left gable. The roof is gabled and hipped to the left, with a stack at the right end.
Inside, the right side has a cobbled floor, and the forge at the right end includes a brick forge. The Old Smithy forms a group with The Forge House.
