Description
Old Kempton Stores is a cottage dating from the late 17th century, with later additions and alterations. It features a timber frame with rendered infill on a rendered plinth, uncoursed limestone rubble, and painted brick on the left gable end, while the right gable end is entirely painted brick. The roof is slate, with overhanging verges and integral red brick end stacks.
The building is two storeys high and has two 19th-century multi-paned casement windows, with cast-iron frames on the first floor. The larger window on the lower left serves as a shopfront. There is a roughly central entrance with a boarded door set in a moulded wood surround.
Inside, the left ground-floor room has a chamfered spine beam and heavy joists, along with a 19th-century cast-iron cooking range in a large fireplace. A timber-framed cross wall has been plastered over since the time of the last survey in August 1986. There is a 20th-century flat-roofed extension at the rear, which is not of special architectural interest.
