Description
Old Smithy is a smithy building, likely dating from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of rubble with cut quoins and dressings, featuring synthetic blue slates on the western part and Welsh slates on the southern part. The building has an old brick stack set on a stone base and is roughly L-shaped, consisting of a single storey.
The left (southern) section has two blacksmith's windows with chamfered surrounds and slightly projecting sills, along with a blocked opening to the left. There is an iron casting ring set in the pavement nearby. A similar window is found on the left return, and there are two more at the rear. The slightly taller right (western) section features a stable door with a blacksmith's window to the right. The right end gable has 19th-century coping on earlier reverse-stepped stonework, along with a banded stack on an older base. At the rear, there are two blacksmith's windows with unchamfered surrounds.
