Description

Howick Grange is a villa built in the late 18th century or early 19th century, with an enlargement in the early 20th century. It features ashlar stonework and a Welsh slate roof. The older part of the building is L-shaped, with an extension to the north. The east elevation is divided into two sections: the original house on the right is two storeys high and has three bays, arranged symmetrically. The central door has been converted into a 15-pane sash window, flanked by two full-height segmental bows with two windows each, featuring 12-pane sashes with slightly projecting sills. There is an eaves cornice supported by paired moulded brackets. The roof is hipped, with rendered stepped-and-corniced stacks located on the ridge and at the left end. To the left, there is an altered bay that connects to the three-bay extension, which has similar window styles and a separate hipped roof. The right side of the original part displays two ground-floor windows that have been enlarged to accommodate tripartite sashes, along with three 12-pane sashes above. The rear elevation includes an extruded early 20th-century porch at the angle with the service wing, featuring panelled double doors with a Grey crest above, set under a pedimented hood supported by consoles.
