Description

The building at No. 9 Whitcott Keysett is a farmhouse, likely dating from the 17th century with subsequent alterations. It was originally possibly timber-framed, but has been refaced or rebuilt using a mix of coursed limestone and sandstone rubble, with 20th-century slate roofs. The farmhouse has a baffle-entry plan, with projecting gabled cross-wings on either side. The main range has a stone ridge stack above the off-centre right-hand door. The main range has 20th-century three-light casement windows on both floors, with a boarded door to the right. The right-hand cross-wing has a 20th-century two-light casement window on the first floor and a three-light casement on the ground floor. The left-hand cross-wing also features 20th-century two-light casement windows on both floors, visible on its return front. A later, one-storey gabled addition from the 19th century extends from the front of the left-hand cross-wing, featuring a brick end-stack, a two-light casement window, and a half-glazed door. The interior contains a large fireplace and chamfered beams. Despite the altered window openings, the 17th-century farmhouse retains much of its original character and runs parallel to Bryn-y-Cagley Hall.
