Description
19-22 Coton Hill is a row of four houses, now functioning as two, dating from the early 16th century. The buildings are timber-framed with some areas of painted brick cladding and a plain tiled roof. No. 19 features a gabled cross range to the south, with painted timber on the brick cladding on the side and gable wall, and exposed square-panelled framing at the rear. The lower openings have segmental-arched heads and are blocked, with an inserted three-light casement window and a two-light casement window above. There is a doorway in a projecting porch on the side elevation and a side wall stack.
Nos. 20-22 form a single range that was originally three units of unequal size. They are framed in close studding with middle rails, central raking braces, and square panelling in the lower outer sections. The left side features a doorway flanked by two-light casement windows. Towards the right, there are two doorways with simple hoods supported by moulded brackets, flanked by two-light casements, with a three-light window between them. A fixed-light window is located in the centre of the elevation. All lower windows are casements with transoms, while the upper windows are casements set in slightly corbelled-out cases. The buildings have axial stacks and an internal roof structure that includes a cambered tie beam, queen posts, and windbraces. No. 19 was listed on September 19, 1972.
