Description
14, 16 and 18 Church Street is a range of three houses dating from the mid-17th century. The houses have a timber frame that is clad with a late 19th-century red brick skin and feature a roof made of black-glazed pantiles. The building is two storeys high and has a five-window range. There are two four-panelled doors for Nos. 14 and 18, with a plank door located left of centre that leads to a passageway at the rear, providing access to No. 16. The passageway showcases exposed timber studwork. Nos. 14 and 16 each have two 2-light late 19th-century casement windows on the ground floor, while No. 18 has one 3-light casement window on either side of its door. The first floor features five 2-light casements. All door and window openings are topped with rendered and painted skewback arches. The roof is gabled and includes internal gable-end stacks and a ridge stack, each with two octagonal flues. Inside, the original range is one room deep, with 19th and 20th-century rear extensions. There are winder staircases by the stacks, which contain open inglenook fireplaces. The tie beams are supported on arched braces, and the roof features a late 19th-century king post design.
