Description
The All Stretton War Memorial is a limestone structure dedicated and unveiled in March 1920. It is located on a raised bank to the west side of the B5477, Shrewsbury Road. The memorial takes the form of an obelisk on a pedestal with a stepped, square plinth.
The obelisk is made of ashlar and rises from the plinth, which features a cap with a deep cavetto moulding at the top, supporting miniature pediments on each face. The plinth has green slate plaques on the north, east, and south fronts. The eastern plaque bears the inscription ‘To the Glory of God / and in the memory of those / from this parish who fell / in the Great War 1914 – 1918 / for Truth Righteousness and Justice’. The names of the fallen are inscribed below this inscription and on the panels on the flanks. Additionally, a small plaque on the east face of the obelisk records the names of those who died in the Second World War, while a larger plaque with the same names is set into the upper step of the plinth.
