Description

Lower Botvyle is a farmhouse, now a house, with a core dating to the 17th century. It was significantly extended in the 19th century and underwent extensive restoration in the late 20th century. The building is characterised by a timber frame with painted infill panels at the first floor, set against a ground floor of stone rubble covered with painted cement render to the rear. Modern timber casement windows are found throughout, and the roof is covered in plain tiles, with 20th-century brick ridge stacks.

Originally arranged in a T-shape, the projecting gable of a cross wing now forms a central feature, with a further wing extending to the right. The front elevation features a central gable truss of square framing, below a tie beam with diagonal bracing forming lozenge patterns, mirrored on the left return side. The tie beam is interrupted by a 20th-century window. The central gable is supported by a collar with vertical struts below and twin raking struts above, both incorporating diagonal inset bracing. The main range displays rectangular square framing with a middle rail, and a rebuilt left-hand gable end. The rear mirrors the front gable, although without the inset diagonal bracing; the remaining rear walls are rendered. The interior was not inspected.
