Description

The Lound War Memorial, unveiled in 1920, was designed by Sharpe and Hoggard of Retford. It features a light grey Scottish granite obelisk with a splayed base, set on a darker grey granite plinth that bears the memorial inscription. The principal east face reads: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN GRATEFUL MEMORY OF THE YOUNG MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO FELL IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918 (names) 1939 - 1945 (names)". The other three faces of the plinth state "THOSE WHO SERVED (names)". The plinth is supported by a two-stepped base made of the same light stone as the obelisk.
