Description
No. 16 Church Street is a house that was converted into a bank in the 19th century and is now two shops. It dates from the late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed of brick, featuring a storey band on the right half, while the left half has been rebuilt in 19th-century brick and the rear is covered in painted render. The roof is tiled, with a brick-coped gable at the rear and a brick ridge stack. The front range has a rear gabled extension.
The exterior is two stories high with an attic and consists of a four-window range featuring 20th-century restored 8/12 sash windows with flat brick lintels. There are two tiled gabled dormers with 20th-century casements. The central door is framed by a moulded wood doorcase, with 20th-century shop fronts on either side. The shop front to the right is set beneath a rendered segmental-arched lintel that has a projecting keystone and springing stones. The interior has not been inspected.
