Description

This building is a barn and cow house located approximately 27 metres south of Castle Farmhouse. It likely dates from the late 16th century, with alterations and additions made in 1863. The structure is built of red brick, featuring grey sandstone ashlar quoins and dressings, and has a plain tile roof. The barn and attached cow houses are aligned roughly east-west and consist of one storey and a loft.

On the south side, there are four loft openings, with the first and third from the right having chamfered reveals. To the right, there is a ground-floor chamfered Tudor-arched stone doorway, with a partly blocked two-light stone chamfered-mullioned window to the left. Off-centre to the left are a pair of boarded barn doors, with a segmental-headed stable door to the right and a slatted window to the left. The 19th-century addition to the left features two-light segmental-headed windows flanking a boarded door on each floor.

The left-hand gable end has a datestone inscribed with "VRC/1863". There is also a one-storey block adjoining to the left, which includes a segmental-headed window to the right and two segmental-headed boarded doors to the left. The rear of the barn has tall vertical vents on the left and four tiers of diamond-pattern vents on the right. The 16th-century parts of this building were likely associated with the nearby Moreton Corbet Castle, which underwent significant enlargement around 1579. Castle Farmhouse is not included in this listing.
