Description
27 Broad Street is a house dating from the mid-18th century, attributed to the architect T.F. Pritchard. It is constructed of coursed stone rubble and features a hipped Welsh slate roof with brick end stacks. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a five-window range. The central window is a 13/6 sash with a semi-circular head and a moulded shouldered architrave, set in a protruding bay topped with a moulded pediment. This is flanked by paired 9/6 sashes in moulded cases beneath flat arches. The eaves are wood moulded and modillioned, and there are two dormers with cambered lead roofs and 3/3 sashes, along with a hipped dormer featuring a casement window.
At the entrance, there are central steps leading to a six-panel door with a fanlight, all within a plain stone round-headed case that is topped by a stone open pediment with a moulded hood supported by stone pilasters. On either side of the door, there are 2/2 sashes with shouldered architraves, which are under a frieze and the cornice extension of the door hood. The pairs of 9/6 sashes on either side of the central bay have rendered reveals. The returns of the central bay house the rainwater goods.
