Description
The Old Porch House is a house dated 1628, though it is likely to be somewhat older. It features a timber-framed structure with a plain tiled roof, standing two storeys high and comprising a three-window range. The building is framed in close studding, with a middle rail on the ground floor and some tension bracing, while the upper section has small, irregular square panels. A central full-height gabled porch projects from the front, supported by heavy carved brackets at the doorway. The date is inscribed on the tie-beam above the porch, but it is likely an addition to an earlier structure, as it interrupts the framing of the wall behind. The house has 2- and 3-light leaded mullioned and transomed windows on both floors, with the upper windows set in slightly projecting cases. There are also 12-pane sash windows in the gable end. A long rear wing, which may be an 18th-century addition, extends from the back, and there is a rear wall stack to the right.
