Description
This building is an outbuilding located approximately 10 metres east of The Tithe Barn. It dates from the late 17th century and has undergone alterations in the mid-to-late 18th century and the 20th century. The structure is timber framed with brick nogging set on a high brick plinth, and it has been rebuilt in red brick on the north-west and north-east sides. The roof is covered with plain tiles.
The framing consists of square panels, with three sections from the sole plate to the wall plate, and long straight tension braces. The building has two framed bays and features a toothed-brick eaves cornice on the north-west side.
On the north-west front, the former coach house is to the left, featuring a pair of large boarded doors with an elliptical relieving arch above. To the right, there are two large boarded doors from the 20th century. In the centre, there are two small doorways; the left doorway has an inserted wooden lintel, and the right doorway has a boarded door with a segmental relieving arch above.
The right-hand gable end retains the remains of a collar and tie-beam truss with queen struts and V-struts, while the left-hand gable end has a tall blind round-arched panel with a brick impost band and a boarded loft door. The rear wall includes vents in brick infill panels. The interior has not been fully inspected, but a timber-framed cross wall with tension braces is noted in the left-hand part. This building was formerly one of the outbuildings to The Old Rectory on Claypit Street. The Tithe Barn itself is not included in this listing.
